Crafted in the city of Kurume, Japan, MoonStar has been producing footwear since 1873. Located in Kyushu prefecture, Kurume is known for its rubber industry, which first prospered manufacturing the Jika-Tabi shoe: traditional Japanese footwear modeled after a five-fingered sock with a vulcanized rubber sole. Through its long history, MoonStar continues to bring technology, experience, and thoughtful design to its shoes — comfortable, beautiful, and “Made in Kurume” with pride.

As part of Playmountain East, a year-long exploration of the work and processes of Japanese and Japanese-influenced artists and makers, we’re thrilled to announce Japanese shoemaker, MoonStar. Stop in, say hello, shop, and enjoy!
