Welcome to your introduction to Kintsugi—the Japanese art of repairing chipped, cracked, and broken tableware. Using natural materials and traditional techniques, this repair highlights the breakages and celebrates the unique story of the wares.
The Scene, from POJ Studios, will guide you through the initial steps of a kintsugi repair and give you the cultural background of the craft over the course of 2 hours.
All materials included in workshop price—including a ceramic from Kyoto to repair for this workshop. Finished pieces can be shipped to your home for an additional fee payable on the day.
After the class, you'll leave the piece with POJ Studio for the curing process, and the work will be available for pickup at Heath Ceramics in early May. You can also purchase a Kintsugi Kit to complete the repair at home after any one of our classes.
Please note, depending on the number of participants, the session may run a little longer than 2 hours.
Urushi Urushi lacquer is the sap of the urushi tree. While urushi can cause skin irritation in its raw, wet state, once it has completely cured and hardened, it is absolutely food safe. The fundamental ingredient of kintsugi-repair, urushi is one of the most durable natural materials and thus extremely well-suited for environmentally-responsible, long-lasting repair of ceramics, porcelain, and other wares.
Age requirement The minimum age to participate in the workshop is 13 years old.
Cancellations
Due to limited seating and high demand, we request that you cancel at least 7 days before a booked class. You may cancel via email to experiences@pojstudio.com. Unfortunately, we cannot offer any refunds if you cancel within 7 days of the class. If POJ Studio must cancel class due to unforeseen circumstances such as natural disasters, we will process a full refund to your credit card within 7—10 business days.
